Frequently asked questions

Where is the cheapest petrol in the UK?

Supermarket forecourts — Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, and Morrisons — consistently offer the cheapest petrol in the UK. Prices vary by region; search or browse your local area above to compare stations near you.

How often are UK petrol prices updated?

Prices are updated every hour from the UK Government's mandatory fuel price reporting scheme. All retailers with 6 or more sites must submit prices every 30 minutes, so what you see is always current.

What is the current average petrol price in the UK?

The UK average petrol price changes daily. The national averages shown above are calculated from live station data across the country.

Is supermarket petrol worse for my car?

No. All petrol sold in the UK must meet the same EN 228 standard regardless of where it's bought. Supermarket fuel is the same quality as branded station fuel — you pay more at BP or Shell for the brand, not a better product.

What is E10 petrol?

E10 is standard unleaded petrol containing up to 10% ethanol. It has been the default petrol grade in the UK since September 2021. Most petrol cars built after 2011 are compatible. E5 (Super Unleaded) contains no more than 5% ethanol and is recommended for older or high-performance vehicles.
